Moving further into the Inner West, the culinary experts that brought you the Norfolk and The Carrington have set up shop in Petersham at The Oxford Tavern. In the beer garden, a giant smoker called Black Betty turns out incredible ribs, brisket and pulled pork, plus other American-style meaty menu items. Perfect for group dining, you choose your protein (make sure you get a side of smoky beans) and it's carved to order.
One year and a bit in The Oxford Tavern has settled in to being a firm legendary local boozer. Winner of the Best New Pub Award at the Bartender Awards, we are a minute's walk from Petersham train station which is just 8 minutes from Central Station... CONVENIENT!! On the menu are Asado Steak tacos , a hickory burger, amazing buffalo cauliflower balls, a 3 x 3 Quesadilla and Chook San Choy Bow (yes). It's not all fancy pants though. All the pub staples are stage side too- stadium sized double dogs, sausages & sauerkraut, steaks, and schnitzels. Black Betty is the Tavern’s custom-built steel drum smoker and serves smoked brisket, pulled pork, dino beef ribs, smoked sausage plus lots more every Friday night, Saturday and Sunday lunch until it's all gone - which is usually a couple of hours.
Pull up a stool and get busy drinking. There is a huge beer selection. If you don't like beer, that's cool. There's plenty of beer and there is also some beer to choose from. Do you cocktail? Take a Slow Dazzle (Black Strap Rum, Campari, Lime, Pineapple), wear a Black Velvet (Stout & Champagne), relax in a Banana Hammock (Sugar Cane, Rye, Banana, Lime), or witness A Swinging Tit (Pisco, Sage, Hibiscus, Pineapple). Plus a throwback wine list to help you reek of the seventies.
There are weekly specials like steak night, ladies night, double doawgs and $10 burgers as well as pool tables! Something for everyone, all the time.
The Oxford Tavern is open seven days a week, from 12pm till late with Rita’s staying open til 3am Fridays & Saturdays with music - it's gewd!
