The Glenmore Hotel The Glenmore Hotel, 96 Cumberland St, The Rocks NSW 2000, Australia

The Glenmore proves pub-goers don't have to be drinking in a candle-lit den to be honouring the past. Interior designers have restored the heritage pub to its original features, with a thoroughly modern twist. A cocktail bar graces the first floor but the rooftop bar remains the star attraction, with spectacular views of Circular Quay and a retractable roof so patrons needn't mind the weather. On the menu is high-end pub grub, a decent list of on-tap and bottled beers, plus wines, spirits and cocktails. It is one of the last surviving pre- Harbour Bridge buildings on Cumberland Street, north of the Cahill Expressway. The site is known to have been occupied from the early years of 1800, although it is likely that, like the other ridges of The Rocks, it was occupied by the encampment of settlers in the first weeks of the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.
