Pizza Birra Pizza Birra, 1/500 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW 2010, Australia

Pizza e Birra is beautiful in its simplicity – delicious wood-fired pizza served with icy cold beer. The glass-fronted Surry Hills restaurant, with its brown paper-topped tables and sparse fit out caters equally well to children (although the inability to book may require patient tots) while the small bar area will keep adults sated while they wait.

Ah, the perfect combination; and put so simply with a nice little Italian twang. This isn't surprising, really, when the Italians are renowned for making the simple things the best, and Pizza e Birra does not disappoint. Oh no; after one slice and a swig of lager to wash it down with, you'll already be planning your next visit. Consistently abuzz with the Surry Hills crew, this eatery embodies a warm and welcoming atmosphere that encourages a jolly good feasting time.

The chefs can be seen kneading dough through a window into the kitchen in the traditional method of pizza making. Consequently, authentically thin-crusted pizzas are the go here, however, there are lots of other Italian dishes to fill up your table. Allow for some potato and pecorino crochettes and a couple of arincini balls to roll your way as you leaf through the beer list – of which there are several Australian and Italian to choose from. The wine list, too, is equally as appealing. Many of the dishes are presented regally upon a raised frame allowing you to fit even more food on your table so nibble on some olives perhaps as you await the main course. Tuck into a pizza topped with your favourite fresh ingredients such as buffalo mozzarella, basil, cured meats, and tomato – the calzones are also brilliant.
