Mahjong Room Mahjong Room, 312 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW 2010, Australia

The Mahjong Room is a singular experience: rich, eclectic, and recapturing Hong Kong family life in the 60s through the tradition of sharing food and playing mahjong. Enjoy simple, home-style Chinese food in a colourful Surry Hills restaurant rich with heritage and memory.

The sound of mahjong tiles clicking together evokes strong memories for anyone who has travelled in Asia or even to their local Chinatown.

This ancient and traditional Chinese game is the foundation of MahJong Room's philosophy: to celebrate family, tradition, culture and combine these essential ingredients of life over good food.

William Hui and Erika Chan opened MahJong Room in 2002 with the aim of sharing this heritage and memories of their childhood growing up in Hong Kong for all Sydneysiders to enjoy.

MahJong Room is a modern Chinese restaurant in Sydney's vibrant Surry Hills.

Serving healthy home-style Cantonese food on traditional Chinese wooden mahjong tables, our philosophy is to bring together friends and family through China's two favourite past-times: eating and games.

MahJong offers a variety of dining experiences from our 60s-style private dining rooms to a traditional laneway as featured in the movie Mao's Last Dancer. Lessons in the traditional Chinese tile game of mahjong served with dim sum and street food are available lunch time every Friday and Saturday.
