31 Castlegate is one of York’s great independent restaurants. We are located in the centre of York, under the shadow of the imposing Clifford’s Tower. Our restaurant offers fine dining and contemporary modern European cuisine in an extraordinarily charming atmosphere.

Housed in the former home of a Georgian architect, it’s full of impressive period features and décor throughout. Our restaurant has a private dining space within the main restaurant and is capable of seating up to 16 people in a contemporary surrounding. Located on our main floor. Our quirky Georgian building features a low ceiling in the lower, now bar area where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail before you take a seat for your dinner. The original wooden beams exposed for all to see and admire. The bar area is intimate and cosy, with a gorgeous fireplace and only the best service from the bar staff.
