Red Lily is an exclusive little bar tucked away in a quiet Darlinghurst backstreet, on Crown Lane. Positioned behind Luke Nguyen's Red Lantern on Riley, Red Lily is a trendy nook to either have a drink whilst waiting for a table in the restaurant, or linger over Saigon street-style bar snacks.
Red Lily is reminiscent of old Saigon with its Indochine interior meets back room drinking parlour. The space is smartly dressed with wooden stools and a marble bar, though elements such as the faded ink-look emblem on the stripped back main wall lend a grungy, cool tone. The music and ambience is set to South East Asia, playing Classic Soul and Rare Asian Vintage Soul from the 50's, 60's and 70's, another unique touch.
FOOD&BEVERAGE
Rather than the large, share style plates offered at Red Lantern, Red Lily specialises in delectable Saigon street snacks. A few restaurant favourites do make an appearance, such as Aunty 5's rice cakes with tiger prawns, caramelised pork, pork floss and shallot oil, though certain smaller plates such as the ‘Banh Khot', Turmeric and coconut rice cakes filled with prawn and pork, are exclusive to the bar. The menu is geared to being perfect paired with the Asian inspired drinks on offer, with ingredients such as coconut water, kafir lime and Thai basil all making appearances. The wine list features a good mix of international and Australian drops.
