The Shipwreck Museum is an independent charitable Museum of the Nautical Museums Trust Charity No. 284687 – set in the historic Old Town of Hastings, UK. The Museum has artefacts from many ships wrecked in the English Channel from the Goodwin Sands in Kent to Pevensey Bay in East Sussex including the Amsterdam a Dutch East Indiaman of 1749 and the Anne of 1690 also the Charles II warship. There are also exhibits of fossils found in the local area. We are a multi-sensory Museum with sound, touch and smell.
The museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Admission is free!
The Shipwreck Museum explores the remarkable geological and environmental circumstances that have helped to preserve these shipwrecks. We are a unique museum linked to a Maritime Park, We have helpful, friendly staff and an excellent Gift Shop that is also well worth a visit. All the profit from the shop pays for the Museum to run and be free at point of entry.
The Shipwreck Museum is ideally sited in the middle of the shoreline ‘Maritime Park’ and has been visited by over a million people, including numerous Schools & Groups, since it opened in 1986. The Museum is a Not for Profit Organisation. The entire Museum is on one level and is an accessible venue for the disabled.
The stories of ships are international, particularly involving Dutch, French, German, Danish and British history, so visitors from abroad are particularly welcome.
Disabled parking can be found in the area of the Yacht Club. The car park charging method is Pay and Display and there are 6 machines located in the car park. (Remember to bring coins with you for the machines). You can also use your Debit Card to pay for parking. Total number of parking spaces: 450 Disabled parking spaces: 15 Charging period: 24 hours/7 days a week No access to car park between 22.00 hrs and 07.00 hrs (barrier restriction) Height restriction: 2.2 meters (7′ 2″).
