If you are interested in finding out more about Cecil Rhodes’ life and times then you can view the large collection of artefacts, documents and archives relating to him. If you would like to find out more about local history, then the galleries on the second floor contain a wealth of information and interesting displays.
The Bishop’s Stortford Museum is housed in the original Victorian building which was the birthplace of Cecil Rhodes (1853 – 1902), financier and founder of diamond company De Beers. The museum is a local landmark and receives vistiors from all over the world many of whom come to see the unique collection of artefacts about Rhodes and his life.

Rhodes is firmly committed to enabling all our customers to participate in our events equally and with dignity and respect. We aim to be accessible to all, offering a varied programme of events and exhibitions and providing special facilities to meet the needs of our customers.

Wheelchairs
Each area within Rhodes is accessible for people using Wheelchairs. Rhodes has a lift for access to the first floor and Bishop’s Stortford Museum.
Access to the Theatre
Customers who require particular seating arrangements in order to accommodate difficulties they may have in attending performances should contact the Box Office.
There are four wheel chair positions within the main auditorium should you require one of these please advise the Box Office Staff.
Toilets
Rhodes has two disabled toilets.
All our toilets have emergency call systems installed to provide our customers reassurance.
Each toilet allows for individuals with right hand and left-handed impairments.
Parking
Car parking for people with disabilities (two spaces) is available within Rhodes car park, during busy periods we advise customers to arrive early to ensure a space as the car park does fill up quickly.
Hearing
Theatre – To enhance sound for the hearing impaired in our theatre, an Induction Loop system is installed. If you wish to use the facility you should switch your hearing aid to the ‘T’ position.
