This visitor centre is dedicated to the Scottish author James Leslie Mitchell, better known as his pen name Lewis Grassic Gibbon.

Grassic Gibbon was the writer of Sunset Song, first published in 1932 and named the best Scottish novel of all time.

The Grassic Gibbon Centre is found in the heart of the Mearns countryside, nearby the farm where this famous novelist grew up and the churchyard where his ashes were laid to rest.

The exhibition tells the story of his life and work through photographs, display cases and story boards. You can enjoy a light snack and home baking in the café, and browse Grassic Gibbon books and local crafts in the book and gift shop.

On arrival parking is available and free of cost. We enjoyed our visit to the centre. Simple and effective and provided what it promised. Staff multi task and made our visit comfortable and hassle free as being disabled. Toilet facilities available at the centre. Food was very average. Catering and staff were all excellent. There is lots of interesting information about Grassic Gibbon’s life and many photos and artefacts. Overall it was a good visit and not bad.
