Standing at the highest point overlooking the historic Wealden town of Cranbrook and maintained in working order, this Grade 1 Listed Building is the tallest surviving "smock mill" in the British Isles. Managed by Volunteers of the Cranbrook Windmill Association, the windmill is open at regular times from the end of March to the end of September each year. Educational and other Group Visits are welcome throughout the year.
The mill is operated by The Cranbrook Windmill Association, a group of volunteers, who open the mill to the public during summer afternoons, usually from 2:30-5:00pm. For special events we sometimes open for longer - see notes below.
FREE ENTRANCE: However, if you enjoy your visit we do welcome donations towards our charitable objectives.
Located near the centre of Cranbrook. No car parking on site but Public Car Park and street parking nearby.
In addition to our normal opening to the public, Cranbrook Union Mill takes part in events both locally and nationally and may open extra days and/or extended hours to support these. Click on the links above for more information and/or links to relevant websites.
DISABLED ACCESS: Union Mill is a Grade 1 Listed Industrial Building with steep, narrow stairs to the six floors of machinery and displays. As a result disabled access is, unfortunately, extremely limited. However, we now have an audio-visual room in the basement, accessed without stairs, where you may watch a guided tour on video.
SCHOOL AND GROUP VISITS: We encourage School and Other Group visits throughout the year. Educational packs are available and visits can be tailored to each group's interests.
Kent County Council have also produced an Educational Pack for use with any of the eight windmills they own and maintain.
