The Coastal Communities Museum opened for the first time in July 2013 and since then has staged a variety of exhibitions with a different story or picture of the local community. The museum is entirely volunteer-run and relies on grants/donations to help sustain an important historic link with the past. You can visit us from Easter until the end of November, although during this period the days of opening do vary.
Visiting the museum is easy, as you can walk, cycle, drive, travel by train or bus, or a combination of these modes of transport, then drop-in between 11.00 am and 4.00 pm, but check our days of opening. It will depend on the time of year.
Opening Times: 11am – 4pm.
Access
The museum is situated on the first floor of Grade C Listed, building above the local library. Access to the museum can be by stair or by a modern lift, if you prefer. There are Ladies and Gentlemans toilets on the First Floor and a disabled facility on the Ground Floor.
Getting around the exhibition space is straightforward for all able-bodied visitors and wheelchair users. The wooden surface is flat and there is plenty of room between exhibits. For those hard of hearing, there is a Hearing Loop.
Special Group Visits
If you organise and arrange group outings, and would like to visit the Coastal Communities Museum on a particular date outwith normal opening, then talk to us about your special needs.

This museum is a little gem! The volunteers who effectively runs the museum do a fantastic job. They clearly love their work and meeting people. They were happy to engage with disabled visitors or leave them to view the exhibitions themselves. The museum wheelchair accessible. Lift is also available for easy access and hearing loop facility is also available. There is also a lovely cafe serving teas coffees and snacks at very reasonable prices. Enjoyed the visit of museum
