Shelt Gill is a mediaeval cruck cottage with dry stone walls. This family cottage in the Lake District has been modernised and extended to make a comfortable, fully equipped and attractive holiday home sleeping 4/5 in two downstairs bedrooms. On the first floor there is a spacious lounge / dining room with ancient timbers and a view over Lake Coniston. It nestles in the foothills of the Old Man/Walna Scar Range and is secluded without being isolated.
Accomodation
Lounge/Dining Room
The main room is a large lounge / dining room (4.2 x 5.7m) with views over Lake Coniston. In the lounge area there is a three piece suite with a three cushion settee and a coffee table. The electric stove has a 'living flame' effect and gives out good heat. The colour television has freeview, radio and a DVD player. In the dining area there is a table with six chairs, with a view onto the side garden towards the beck running down the boundary with the farm next door. The patio window slides open to give you access to the garden.
Kitchen
The kitchen window looks across the garden to the beck. The kitchen (2.65 x 1.8m) is fully equipped to cater for up to 5 people with a toaster, kettle, micro-wave, large fridge (with freezer compartment) and electric oven with four rings, low level grill and timer. A side cupboard contains the hot water cistern and some storage space.
Bathroom
The bathroom (2.0 x 1.75m) contains a bath, overbath shower, wash basin and toilet. There is a shaver point and heated towel rail.
Hallway
The front door opens directly onto the hallway (4.2 x1.5m). As you enter there are coat pegs and a box seat in which to place muddy boots. On one side there are double doors leading to the lounge / dining room. On the other side there is the bathroom and the stairs leading down to the two bedrooms.
Bedroom 1
This bedroom is 4.00m x 2.25m and contains a standard double bed. Pillows are provided and both blankets and duvets so you have a choice. There is a large wardrobe and bedside cupboards with reading lamps. A smallish window allows some natural light.
Under the stairs leading to the ground floor bedrooms is a cupboard for storage (suitcases etc.) There is also a cot and a high chair if you need them.
Bedroom 2
This bedroom is 4.0m x 2.7m and has two single beds. A third (slightly smaller) single bed is normally tucked underneath, but can be pulled out when needed. So you can have three singles or a double and a single if you let us know what arrangement you would prefer. Pillows are provided and both blankets and duvets so you have a choice. There is a small wardrobe and a dressing table. This bedroom has two windows.
Garden
The garden extends from the cottage to the boundary beck on one side, and up the hill to the lane at the back of the cottage. It is not enclosed, because the level of the garden is higher than the lane. The garden is kept mown and has some planting. There is a garden seat just outside the patio window.
