All Hallows-by-the-Tower, also previously dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and sometimes known as All Hallows Barking, is an ancient Anglican church on Byward Street in the City of London, overlooking the Tower of London.
We have a small short-stay car park for visitors and disabled use. An NCP car and coach park is available in Lower Thames Street, just past the church.
Admission to the church and museum is by donation.
The church is normally open from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday (5pm in autumn/winter), and from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday except during services. As we are a busy working church, there may be times when your visit is interrupted by our services or events. We suggest that if you are making a special journey to see the church you should contact the church office beforehand.
Guided Tours
Free guided tours of the church are available most days from 2-4pm between April and October. These short highlight tours present the ideal opportunity to hear first hand about the church’s long and fascinating history
Groups
Heritage Tours for groups are available by arrangement throughout the year. These last approx one hour and must be pre-booked, and there is a charge of £5 per person. Please contact the church office (020 7481 2928 or email parish@ahbtt.org.uk) for details. Self guided groups are welcome to look around the church, but please ensure you book with the church office before your visit as it may not always be convenient for you to come at the time you would wish.
School Visits
All Hallows is home to a highly successful series of Arts in Education programmes for London primary schools, staged in partnership with Clios Company, who specialise in site-specific theatre in education. The November project, “Ultima Britannia”, focuses on life in Roman London during the first century, and our Spring programme “Lundenwic” focuses on the Anglo Saxons.
Facilities for disabled
The church and cafe have disabled access and toilets, but there is currently no access to the museum and undercroft chapels in the crypt.
Latest Reviews
This lovely church is the oldest in the City of London. There is no fee for entry. The staff/volunteers are cheerful and helpful. There is a lift to the crypt for disabled people with disabled access and disabled toilets. But limited disabled access for the museum in comparison to the church. A small museum in the crypt will show you the Roman foundations under the church. Great accessibility in the church for disabled peoples.
