Oatlands Park Hotel is steeped in royal history. The magnificent grounds were originally the site of a grand Tudor palace built by Henry VIII in 1538. Other monarchs, including Elizabeth I, James I and Charles I, also resided at Oatlands during their reign.

Over the centuries, the house and grounds have been rebuilt and remodelled several times, and in different styles, by a string of wealthy tenants. Oatlands Park opened as a hotel for the first time in 1856. The South Western Hotel, as it was known then, played host to a number of world-famous guests including writer Emile Zola, novelist Anthony Trollope and artist and poet Edward Lear.

The current owners bought the hotel in 1986 and have lovingly restored and refurbished it, retaining the unique character of the listed buildings and grounds.

We stayed for couple of days at this hotel. We opted for an executive twin room with disabled access. The room was excellent, situated on the ground floor with high ceilings and a large picture window overlooking Broadwater Lake. The bathroom was large and there were individual air conditioning controls, very useful given the heatwave. The bed was also huge and apparently very comfortable. Bathroom was accessible too and did not presented much challenges. Staff were always pleasant to talk to and eager to assist.
