HILLWALKING BASE
The hill walking straight out of Mosspaul is excellent, and challenging but rewarding. The views from the tops stretch for miles, with the Solway Firth and the Lake District clearly visible on one side and the Border country, Lothians and Pentland Hills on the other. Strong walking boots are recommended, plus a compass and map reading skills as there are few paths and the going can be rough. If you like a more structured walk then it is only a few miles drive to join the Abbey Way or the Southern Upland Way as well as a host of other well marked walks in both the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. The website Let's Go for a Walk and the book Walks in the Borders have a host of walks described clearly in them, but if you are looking for something more challenging, why not try The Vertical Challenge, which starts and ends at our own front door.
CATERING OPTION
Mosspaul is self-catering, but if you wish to kick back and let someone else do the work, for example for a special birthday dinner, then we can provide catering from here. Our menus are simple but tasty and we can cater for most special dietary needs. Whether its a cooked breakfast, a packed lunch to take on a walk or a three course waited dinner, we are more than happy to provide for you. If you wish to use your own caterers we are also happy to accommodate them. Most of our guests prefer to cook for themselves, and the commercial kitchen is well equipped for catering for large numbers, with a cupboard fridge, a large catering oven, grills and microwaves, freezers and toasters, even breadmakers to ensure that your catering experience is as stress free as possible.
