The Harrow, Steep The Harrow, Steep, Harrow Ln, Steep, Petersfield GU32 2DA, UK

The Harrow has been in the same family since 1929. It is now run by two sisters, Claire and Nisa McCutcheon, both of whom were born and brought up there. It has been included in the Good Pub Guide for 25 years receiving a unique long-service award. The Harrow Inn is a unique family-run 17th Century village pub set in the hangers of Hampshire, offers a range of ales, hearty home cooked food and a warm atmosphere throughout the year. The Harrow was named as "Unspoilt pub of the year" in the 2008 Good Pub Guide, the second time it has won this award (first time 1996), but first time under management of Claire and Nisa McCutcheon, who took over in 2004. The Harrow is one of only three "authentic pubs" in Alastair Sawday's guide to British pubs.

There are two bars. The “public” on the left is Tudor, with beams, tiled floor, an original inglenook fireplace, a couple of scrubbed tables, wooden benches, tree-trunk stools and a “library”. The saloon, or Smoking Room, as it is called, is a Victorian addition, as is the servery where beer is dispensed from traditional barrels by tap.

As both bars are bars and not restaurants, we regret that the law does not permit children in them. However, there are lots of tables in front of the pub, which is very sheltered, and a garden at the side, again with numerous tables, where children and families are extremely welcome.

The toilets--another Harrow oddity-- are across the lane, the ladies’ at the far end of the old brick stables.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome; dog bowls available.
