Access Statement
Introduction
The Towers Guest House is a late Victorian building located in an elevated position allowing beautiful sea views of Ilfracombe’s picturesque harbour and also overlooking the South West Coast Path. It is approximately 10-15 minutes’ walk down hill to the harbour and sea front. There is a more level walk of approximately 15 minutes to the town centre. The town of Ilfracombe is largely built over the rolling and sometimes steep hills of the North Devon coast, consequently there are some physical limitations to accessibility. However, the seafront and harbour areas are generally level as is the high street.
Car Parking & Arrival
We have private parking on site and no restriction parking on the road in front of the guest house. The entrance to our driveway is on a bend so care should be taken when turning into the drive and then it is a short drive up a slope to the car park. There are patio steps leading up to the entrance where there are four steps to the main door. There is a path that winds round to the four steps in front of the main door which makes access easier with luggage. Assistance with luggage is always available. There is lighting on the driveway, front of patio steps and main front door. After hours, sensor lights to car park and path activate.
Guest Rooms
Our Guest Lounge and Dining Room are located on the Ground Floor and the guest bedrooms are located on the First and Second Floors. We do not have ground floor bedrooms and therefore The Towers may not be suitable for guests with restricted mobility and the guest bedrooms are not suitable for wheelchair users. We have five bedrooms on the First Floor and two on the Second Floor. Please see Rooms on our website for further details. From the ground floor to the second floor, the main stair case has 35 stairs in total. There are 8 stairs to the first half landing, 4 stairs to the second half landing and then 6 stairs to the First Floor. The staircase has a hand rail on one side.

Stayed for one night and it was not so good experience. It is great venue for the abled person but not for the disabled person. There are steps at the entrance, no bedroom are available on the ground floor, you have to go through stairs to get onto room. Bedroom and bathroom were not suitable for wheelchair users at all. I was informed about all this at the front desk and they do agree that they do not have accessibility for wheelchair users. I managed to stay with the help of my family and staff, it will difficult for a disabled person to adjust without anyone helping. Staff was outstanding and they tried their best in helping me out and accommodating me.
