Walk through the entrance of our magnificent brick and stucco Italianate hotel and you’re following some extraordinary guests. Since opening in 1860 to serve first-class rail passengers, we’ve entertained the likes of Charles Dickens, Cecil Rhodes and Lillie Langtry. We’re a hotel of many firsts. We’re the original railway hotel, the first of our kind built to service the many rail travellers to the city. With no other blueprints upon which to base the hotels’ design, our architecture was unique, many say the first skyscraper of its time and students from across the world still visit just to marvel at our structure and design.
We’re the proud recipient of awards and acclaim for our fine dining, business tourism and green credentials. But the foundation of our business at the Hallmark Hotel The Queen, Chester is to give you a fabulous night’s sleep. Whether you’re here for the city’s excellent shopping, Roman history of on business, we’re certain we have a room that suits your needs.

You have 221 to chose from. The largest range of rooms and suites in Chester, catering for every taste, occasion and budget. We added 87 chic royal-themed rooms in a recent multi-million pound revamp, with portraits of monarchs, vibrant colour schemes from gold to shimmering emerald, and bathrooms with elegant Italian fixtures. And just last year we introduced our undeniably romantic Virgins’ Row in the eaves of our historic building with playful contemporary design flourishes, chic earth tones and ensuites with roll top claw foot baths.
Of course there’s also our classic rooms, all clean fresh interiors with rich splashes of blue and burgundy, and, at the top of our range, the luxury suites with four-posters, sumptuous fabrics and wonderfully comfortable living rooms. The Emperor Suites have stunning 7th floor views and state-of-the-art tile TVs on bathroom walls, while the Lillie Langtry, overlooking our magnificent Baltic Exchange Gardens, has lavish drapes, Victorian period style furniture and intriguing historical photographs, along with decadently plush decoration above the bed. You’d expect nothing less for the room once regularly reserved for the Prince of Wales’ mistress.
Whatever your choice – and it’s quite a range to select from – you can be certain that every single room will have a gloriously comfortable bed, crisp linen and those 21st century essentials, superfast fibre optic WiFi, and a flat screen TV with 100 channels.

I would recommend this hotel for anybody with any age with good disabled access. A wonderful place to stay in Chester with perfect Location directly opposite the train station. Plenty of car parking but chargeable. The entrance is very grand up a flight of steps and through rotating doors but for the disabled there is an access on the level from the car park. The rooms were very clean, modern and spacious. Breakfast was plentiful and of a high standard. Bed comfy, room quiet.
