All facilities and amenities at Forda have been designed with guests with impaired mobility in mind.
Forda Stables is our only fully inspected and rated accommodation for guests with impaired mobility. The cottage is rated level M3 (assisted and independent) under the National Accessible Standards. The cottage is a rare combination of full accessibility together with a 5 Star quality rating. The Stables has two twins and one double bedroom (sleeping up to 6) and both bathrooms (one with a bath and one with a level entry shower) are to disabled standards. Reduced rates for low occupancy are available out of high season.
In addition, Forda Barn and lodges Beech and Ash have ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms but there are steps into the buildings. For full details on all of the accommodation please visit the lodges and cottages pages of the website.
Our amenities have been designed with guests with impaired mobility in mind.

This area also has a disabled toilet, changing room and shower and the Sauna has a disabled access door. The pool has easy access with steps and handrail. There is also disabled parking available by the Pool Building, Games Room, Laundry and Tennis.
A disabled friendly bridge links the accommodation areas with the parkland and fishing lakes across the river and wheelchair access to the fishing is possible when not too wet and muddy.
Some of our Spa Treatments are suitable and adaptable for those with mobility problems. Also, by prior arrangement, we can usually organise appointments with a mobile hairdresser and a visiting chiropodist.
Accessibility
Arrival, Reception & Car Parking Facilities:
A parking bay is available by the gate to the reception (sign-posted) – it is advisable for a non-wheelchair user to come alone to reception as a path with chippings is involved. We will then come to the car to take you to the parking for the cottage/lodge. The Stables has its own parking on level tarmac and some lodges also have parking on the level in front of the lodges.
Public Areas, Amenities etc:
Many of the paths/roads within the grounds of Forda are tarmac and suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters and on the roads there is a very low speed limit. The Tennis Court, Games Room and Laundry Room all have disabled access, as does the main Pool Building. This area also has a disabled toilet, changing room and shower and the Sauna has a disabled access door. The pool has easy access with steps and handrail. There is also disabled parking available for the Pool Building, Games Room, Laundry and Tennis. (the disabled cottage has its own laundry facilities in the cottage). A disabled friendly bridge links the accommodation areas with the parkland and fishing lakes across the river and wheelchair access to the fishing is possible when not too wet and muddy. Disabled parking nearer the fishing is also available. Some of our Spa Treatments are suitable and adaptable for those with mobility problems and the treatment room is accessible. In addition, we can usually organise some treatments in the disabled cottage and organise appointments with a mobile hairdresser and a visiting chiropodist.
Forda Stables – Disabled Cottage:
This cottage is rated level M3 (Mobility 3, assisted & non-assisted wheelchair users) under the National Accessible Standards - suitable for a person who depends on a wheelchair and transfers to and from a wheelchair in a seated position. Therefore all doorways and passageways are wide enough for a wheelchair. Parking (level on tarmac) is directly in front of the front door leading into the kitchen. The front door has level access for a wheelchair user. The kitchen and dining area are fully designed for a wheelchair user – including low level hob, oven and cupboards, with wheelchair access under worktops for the sink and hob and dining table. A gentle slope, with handrail, leads to the sitting room. The cottage has three bedrooms, including two twin-bedded rooms which are designed for a wheelchair user, with appropriate bed levels, wardrobes, dressing tables and mirrors. One of these has a disabled adapted bathroom en suite (bath seat-board available for use). There is also a separate disabled shower room and toilet. The shower is level-entry and is suitable for wheel-in; there is a pull-down seat fitted or a stronger more rigid shower chair is available. All rooms have low level light switches and sockets. There is also an emergency call system for the two bathrooms and disabled bedrooms. The Stables has a private patio with picnic table, with hard slabs and gentle slope with handrail access from French windows in the lounge. Unfortunately pets, including guide dogs, are unable to stay in the Stables as a majority of our disabled guests require a pet-free environment.
Other Accommodation:
Forda Barn:
This cottage has private parking directly outside. Downstairs it has the lounge, kitchen, dining area and also one twin bedroom and family bathroom (with separate bath and shower - shower has a step up for access). There are two steps up into the cottage and kitchen and dining area and then a further interior step to the lounge, bedroom and bathroom. There is one step down from the kitchen/dining area to the the bunkbed room and utility room. This cottage is pet-free. Upstairs has a double bedroom, twin bedroom and a small bathroom with half bath and low, sloping ceiling.
Delta Lodges Ash & Beech:
Both lodges are all on one level but with three steps up to the outside deck area and front door. Ash has one double bedroom and has a bathroom with shower (small step in). Beech has a double and twin (sleeping up to 4) and has a bathroom with bath. Lodge Beech accepts a pet but Ash does not.
"A" Frame Lodges:
These lodges are on two floors with large open plan living, dining and kitchen area downstairs. The bathroom and toilet are also downstairs - there is a bath with shower over and screen (for the shower you need to step into the bath). The bedrooms are upstairs and are accessed by natural wood, open tread stairs, but we can move a single bed downstairs if needed. Parking for half of the lodges is directly in front of the lodge and for the others the parking is behind the lodge with steps or a slope down to the lodge. The lodges have one low step up to their patios and then one low step into the front door.
Additional Information:
All televisions are equipped with teletext. Dogs/ Guide Dogs are accepted in half of the lodges.
Access to the Local Area:
Public transport is very poor in the local area and there is no direct link with Forda itself. There is an infrequent bus service from the village of Kilkhampton (a mile and a half from Forda) to Bude, from where there are buses to several towns, including Exeter and Plymouth and their mainline train stations. We can also provide information on local taxi services which cater for wheelchairs.

Staying in the Stables for the second time, accommodation with disabled facilities. Wonderful large bungalow, beautifully clean and very well equipped. Disabled facilities of high standard, lovely accessible shower room and additional able-bodied bathroom making life easier for all of us. Management most accommodating, facilitated arrival of wheelchairs. Location is spectacular and so near to Bude and Widemouth Bay. The Stables is highly recommended. Their caring approach, orgainisation skills and attention to detail made our stay very pleasant.
