The Ken Bridge, a 10 bedroom Georgian hotel, has a spectacular river bank location close by Loch Ken, in an area renowned for its tranquillity and picturesque views.  This 18th Century Coaching Inn was originally built to provide food, ale and shelter for travellers and coaches on the Old Edinburgh Road between Ireland and Edinburgh.

The hotel is a superb centre for fishing, golfing, hill walking, family cycling on the surrounding quiet country roads, mountain biking on the world famous 7 Stanes routes, bird watching, photography, clay pigeon shooting, field and water-sports or for simply relaxing and taking in the wonderful scenery.  We are on the edge of the UNESCO Dark Skies Park created in 2009, which is at this time the only one in Scotland and only the 5th worldwide.  We are founder members and an information point for the Galloway Red Kite Trail.  The river beside the hotel is a seasonal host to Osprey, Kingfisher and Oyster Catcher, there is also a healthy population of Otter.  The woodland to the west of the hotel is used as a roost by up to as many as 35 Red Kite which frequently soar and wheel spectacularly over the hotel.

The Ken Bridge is a family run hotel, the owners of which have local connections reaching back through many generations. The ethos of the hotel is to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible in the most tranquil of surroundings.  The hotel has a well stocked, traditional bar serving cask ales and fine malts.

The restaurant is noted for its good, well presented meals using locally sourced fresh produce wherever possible. Each Sunday the lunch is a veritable feast with the renowned Ken Bridge Carvery, a choice of 3 succulent roasts plus home-made vegetarian alternatives, all served with a fine selection of vegetables, gravies and sundries.

The hotel has 2 spacious dining areas perfect for accommodating coach parties for lunches, high teas and evening meals and is an ideal venue for meetings and small conferences being central to Dumfries, Stranraer and Ayr.

The hotel has a small secluded riverside camping and touring caravan site (Cool Camping and Tiny Campsites Book recommended) and has its own fishing rights on the River Ken which is free to all residents.

Hotel Accommodation

The hotel has 10 en-suite bedrooms offering single, twin, double, triple or family accommodation, all rooms have digital television, alarm clock and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. All of the bedrooms are tastefully furnished in a timeless traditional fashion with the rich hue of mahogany or the soft mellow touch of antique pine.

There is a residents lounge with comfortable sofas, television, small library and free wi-fi.

A hearty breakfast is served to start the day or a packed meal can be provided as an alternative. As an additional service for early risers, bird watchers, stalkers and photographers we will provide a late breakfast by prior arrangement.

The hotel benefits from a 24 hour access to bedrooms and the residents lounge for those guests who require to leave early or arrive late.

Hotel Facilities

The Ken Bridge Hotel has a well appointed traditional Bar with wooden benches, original stone walls and a natural slate floor creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The bar has a well balanced selection of malt whisky and 2 cask ale taps which provide an ever changing choice of both Scottish and English real ales.

It has a separate Games Room leading  from the bar with superb views over the glen and river with access to the terraced beer garden and riverbank. Canoes and small boats can travel to and from Loch Ken on the river when conditions allow.

The hotel has two dining rooms.  The 35 cover Riverside dining room created from the original coach house has panoramic views, a roaring log fire (weather permitting) and many wonderful artefacts to please the eye.  Glazed double doors lead through to our second 45 cover dining room which hosts the renowned Sunday carvery and is popular for private parties and functions.  This room has a permanent display of William Neal paintings.

Stayed for one night and found the hotel to be in a very pleasant. This hotel also provide wheelchair ramp access if someone required. There’s no disabled parking near the entrance. Need to make more changes in the hotel.
