The collection of the Open Air Museum contains approximately 170,000 objects including farm wagons, home textiles, regional dress and toys.

Disabled visitors

The Netherlands Open Air Museum and historic buildings are accessible to disabled visitors. However, the museum park is situated on a hilly site and not all paths are surfaced. This means that access to certain areas may be more difficult, particularly in wet weather. A number of the historic buildings and mills also feature presentations on the upper floors. These areas cannot be accessed with a wheelchair.

Please note: Due to the potential slipperiness of the undulating tramway, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee that wheelchair users will be able to ride on the historic tram in the winter months (November to March).

Carers

Admission for carers is free when they are accompanying a disabled visitor who would be unable to visit the museum on his/her own. The disabled visitor pays the normal admission price.

Tram access for wheelchair users

It is possible to ride around the whole of the museum park on our historic trams. Some of these are accessible to wheelchair users and in the summer season, from April to October, these trams run every day. 
The RET 1050 trams (a trailer car behind one of the RET 520 or RET 535 power cars) are specially adapted for wheelchairs. Our tram staff will be able to tell you exactly when these trams arrive and depart from specific stops and will be happy to help you to get on and off. 
Please note: It is not always possible for the trailer cars to run during the winter months (November to March) due to the slipperiness of the undulating track. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to guarantee that wheelchair users will be able to ride on the trams during this period. We thank you for your understanding.

Toilets

You will find toilets suitable for disabled visitors at the following locations:

• In the Entrance building (tram station A)
• Spaarstation Dingenliefde (tram station B)
• Toilets near the steam-driven dairy factory (tram station D)
• Toilets near the Goes agricultural machinery depot (tram station E)

Dogs

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are allowed in the museum park and - unlike other four-legged friends – are also permitted in the exhibition areas. Please inform the information desk about your assistance dog when you arrive. 

Other dogs are welcome in the museum park - however, they must be kept on a lead. They are not permitted to enter the catering establishments and exhibition areas.

Accessability

Advice on accessibility for wheelchair users 

The Open Air Museum has made a number of modifications to the site over the past few years in order to improve accessibility for wheelchair users. In dry weather, it is possible for any wheelchair user, together with a carer, to visit virtually the whole park. Some of the historic buildings feature presentations on an upper floor (e.g. the Delft windmill). Unfortunately, these areas are not accessible for wheelchair users. 

Because the museum park is situated on a hilly site and not all paths have been surfaced yet, there are still certain areas that are less easy to reach. 

We advise you to start your visit with a tram ride to the ‘Spaarstation Dingenliefde’ tram stop (B), as this way you will avoid uphill sections. Also, if you wish to visit the Brabant and Limburg area (12), the parish church from ’s-Heerenhoek (10.1) or the ‘Freia’ steam-powered dairy factory from Veenwouden (7.1) directly from the entrance pavilion, we advise you to take the tram from the stop 'Grote Weide' (A). 

Additional advice 

We advise you not to use the path between the Midlaren toll-house (13.3), the Delft tower mill (15.6) and the Veluwe paper mill (5.4). We would also advise you against taking the path from the Varik farmhouse (1.10) towards the Giethoorn farmhouse (2.2). We recommend that you choose the path that takes you to the Hoogmade farmhouse (3.7) and then follow the wooden walkway in the direction of the manor (3.1).
