The Landesmuseum Mainz, or Mainz State Museum, is a museum of art and history in Mainz, Germany. In March 2010 it reopened in full after an extensive renovation.

Accessibility

The Landesmuseum Mainz has made its collections accessible to all visitors: The house is completely barrier-free for people with limited mobility.

All objects are stepless or accessible via flat ramps; spacious elevators with voice response reach all departments; from the front door to the entrances to the collections, all doors can be opened electronically at the push of a button; Of course, two wheelchair toilets, one with a height-adjustable toilet bowl, are also available. A wheelchair is available on request at the cash desk.

The Landesmuseum Mainz offers a wide range of services for people with limited interests: An audio guide with audio descriptions for the blind and visually impaired leads to the tangible objects (hands on) in the house and describes the most important exhibits. Three foil books can be borrowed from the cash register: the first is about the house, its history and its collections; Two more are approaching a whole new, exciting topic: they each make a significant painting by the Landesmuseum Mainz palpable.

In addition, there are listening and smelling stations in the house, which not only make disabled visitors happy. A video guide with videos in German Sign Language provides a guide to the main objects of the house for the deaf and the hearing impaired. In the future all texts in the exhibition of the Landesmuseum Mainz will be in easy language.

The Landesmuseum Mainz has already received several awards for its exemplary realization of accessibility!
