The Port Arthur Historic Site is one of Australia’s most important heritage sites and tourist destinations. Located on the scenic Tasman Peninsula in the south east of Tasmania, it offers a unique and essential experience for all visitors to the area.

Wheelchair access

 Wheelchair access

The Historic Site comprises a variety of areas, some of which provide independent access, and others which may require assisted access.

Our Introductory Tour and Harbour Cruise are both wheelchair accessible. However, our Ghost Tours and our tours to the Isle of the Dead Cemetery and Point Puer Boys’ Prison are not recommended for those with mobility restrictions.

Disabled parking is provided adjacent to the temporary visitor entrance.

Please note that all facilities in the Visitor Centre are currently unavailable during the redevelopment. Wheelchairs are available for loan from the Ticketing concourse.

Courtesy vehicles

Courtesy buggies provide a regular drop-off and pick-up service around the Site for visitors with limited mobility. The service is available between 10.00am and 3.30pm daily.

Companion Card

Some people with a disability require the assistance of a companion or carer to participate at venues and events. Port Arthur Historic Site is proud to be among the first organisations in Tasmania to affiliate with the Companion Card Program. The program offers a second ticket or tour pass at no cost to patrons who possess a Companion Card.

We went here today and I found all the staff extremely helpful with my son who required a wheelchair to get around. They have golf carts to go from 1 place to other for people with disability and health issue as it is a long walk to move around from 1 building to other. Everything was well organized and nice place to visit. Plenty of parking space and slots for disabled parking as well.
