The Australian Museum has a new vision to create Australia’s premier cultural destination. 

Visitors with wheelchairs

  • The main entrance to the Australian Museum is through the Crystal Hall found on the corner of College and William Streets. The entry is via a ramp and is wheelchair accessible.
  • The Australian Museum provides access to all areas of the Museum for people in wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
  • Please note that there is no parking available at the Museum.
  • Metered parking is available in all surrounding streets. For more information visit City of Sydney website.

Companion Cards

General Admission and major exhibition entry is free to those who hold a Companion Card and are assisting as a carer. Further discount will apply when presenting a Centrelink Healthcare Card or Pension Card.

Borrowing a wheelchair

You may borrow a wheelchair during your visit. Please ask at the Admission Desk on arrival at the Museum.

Getting around the Museum

There are ramps throughout the exhibitions and two lifts to take you between all floors. All doors are automatic.

Facilities

Toilets

Wheelchair accessible toilets are located on all public gallery floors including Level G, 1 and 2. A wheelchair accessible toilet is also located on Level 4 by No. 1 William.

Baby change rooms

Baby change rooms are found on Level G and Level 2.

Lifts

There are two lifts in the Museum which go to all public levels.

Eating in the Museum

There are three accessible areas to eat in the Museum.

  • No. 1 William is located on Level 4 and is accessible by both lifts.
  • There is a café located in the atrium on Level G with seating.
  • The Garden café is located on William Street and has seating and a pop-up coffee cart. It is also a space for visitors who bring their own lunch.

Hearing loops

  • There is a hearing loop installed in the Hallstrom Theatre at the Museum.

    It was the most interactive museum visits till now. I have a mobility issue and was offered a wheelchair which was in good condition and comfortable. There are lifts to move around the different levels and easy entry. A bit noisy but a good museum to visit and staff was very good.
