Cranfield West offers a gently sloping, mainly sandy beach located at the entrance to Carlingford Lough, an area designated as being of Special Scientific Interest.
Set in an idyllic location at the mouth of Carlingford Lough in County Down, this south facing beach boasts the majestic Mourne Mountains as a backdrop.
Facilities include parking, children's play area, toilets and showers. Lifeguard supervision July-Aug daily 11 am-6 pm and Sept w/ends only.
Cranfield Bay is a sand and shingle beach in front of Cranfield Bay Holiday Park. It offers excellent views of the mouth of Carlingford Lough, the surrounding Mourne Mountains and out to Haulbowline Lighthouse.
Towards the western end, the beach is backed by a promenade and a grassy area, a good spot for picnics, with a large children’s play area.
Parking, including disabled parking, can be found along Ameracam Lane, with access to the beach down a ramp. In the car park, there are toilets and showers.
The beach is used mostly for a range of water sports and swimming, with lifeguards on duty every day in August between the hours of 11am and 6pm. Further facilities such as shops, places to eat, and places to stay can be found in the town of Kilkeel, about 4 miles to the north-east.

Toilets for some strange reason are closed out of season, the beach/ exercise and play facilities are open al year. Outdoor Exercise of all sorts is more necessary than ever after COVID kept us in our homes. This excellent facility is one of the few closed off season. Elderly folk suffer the loss most when they need it most. Reduced hours would be fine but just closed is hard to understand
