Rock Farm Slane
Founded by Alex and Carina Conyngham (Earl and Countess of Mount Charles), Rock Farm is a 90 acre organic farm situated on the Slane Castle estate along the banks of the River Boyne just opposite the Castle and Distillery.
As the eldest son of Henry, 8th Marquess Conyngham, Alex grew up on the estate which has been in the Conyngham family since 1703. With such a long connection to this land, both Alex and Carina are passionate farmers and have become pioneers of ecotourism in Ireland.
The Location
The historic Slane estate village is located in County Meath at the heart of the Boyne Valley which is appropriately named after the Celtic goddess Boann who symbolises water, fertility and inspiration.
Early Stone Age farmers settled in this area and built the burial tombs at Brú Na Boinne six thousand years ago, thanks to the lush, fertile soil sitting on limestone bedrock that they knew would yield nurturing and flavoursome food of the highest quality.
Walking Trail
Stroll past mature woodlands where birds add their song to the sound that the estate is most famous for, the Slane Festival. International rock legends have entertained millions of fans against the backdrop of Slane Castle since 1981. Follow in their footsteps on the Concert Field Walk which starts at the entrance to the Castle courtyard.
Following the excellent feedback on our new walking trail which we opened in Aug this year, we are working on some additional walking trail options. As a result, we have ongoing forestry work taking place on the grounds.
Slane Castle Tours
We provide guided historical tours throughout the Castle which will give you an opportunity to learn about the Conyngham Family, the history of the building and all about the concerts that have been held at the venue over the years. Our tour duration is 45mins.
