Located in San Jose, California, this historic home was once the residence of Sarah and William Winchester, of firearms fame. Sadly, Sara lost her infant daughter to a childhood illness, and just two years later she became a widow. Although nobody knows the real story (hence the mystery), one thought is that Sarah was advised by a psychic to continue with what can only be described as a 36-year renovation project on the 160-room mansion. And although the regular tour is not wheelchair-accessible, this virtual tour is available during the quarantine.
The Winchester Mystery House has 160 rooms including 40 bedrooms, 40 staircases, 13 bathrooms, 6 kitchens, 10,000 window panes, 2,000 doors, 52 skylights, 47 fireplaces, three elevators, two basements and just one shower. So, touring the bizarre mansion and grounds takes time. Don’t worry, we’re here to assist in planning your visit.
For first time visitors with a time limit to their visit, we recommend the Mansion Tour which includes access to the Sarah Winchester Garden Tour.
Those looking to explore even more of the beautiful but bizarre home of Sarah Winchester should book the Mansion Tour, Explore More Tour and spend more time in the gardens and gift shop.
For the ULTIMATE Winchester Mystery House experience we highly recommend taking both the Mansion Tour & Explore More and adding either our all new escape room Houdini’s Spirited Escape or Axe Throwing at the Stables.
We always suggest arriving at least 15 Minutes prior to your tour to have time to park and use the restroom if needed.
