Proceed through Angels Camp on Highway 4 toward Murphys. In Vallecito, turn right onto Parrots Ferry Road and take an immediate left onto Batten Road. If you miss Parrots Ferry, you can turn right onto Batten Road 1/4 mile up Highway 4.
A renegade spirit pulses through our award winning wines.
Making wine since before he was old enough to drink it Russell’s dedication is discernible through every sip. Never losing the integrity of the wine he always pushes the limits of viticulture. With both estate grown grapes and those grown to our specifications he has created such mouth welcoming joys as Alacant Bouchet and Chenin Blanc.
We also guarantee you will taste much more.
Whatever the varietals from our Petite Sirah to the Pog Mo Thoin our sense of fun and family permeates in each bottle.
Irish Family Vineyards is located a short drive away, on the other side of Murphys. Continue along 6 Mile Road for about a mile, then make a left on Scott Street, followed by a right on Jones Street and a left on Main Street. Irish Family Vineyards is just up the road on the left. As an added bonus, it’s a nice little country drive.
This family-owned operation pales in size compared to Ironstone Vineyards, however it offers visitors a refreshingly intimate tasting experience. Wheelchair access is good too, with accessible parking, level access to the tasting room and an accessible restroom. Of course the real bonus to visiting a small vineyard is the opportunity to chat with the winemaker. And Russell Irish won’t disappoint you in that respect, as he’s rarely at a loss for words as he pours his award winning wines. Known for pushing the limits of viticulture, Russell is happy to chat about winemaking techniques or even regale visitors with the tale of how this former Turlock hatchery employee pulled up stakes and moved to the foothills to pursue his lifelong dream of opening a winery.
Visitors can enjoy a taste of Russell’s popular Alacant Bouchet or Chenin Blanc at the lowered wheelchair-accessible bar. Alternatively, you can sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine on the patio. The nicely landscaped grounds include picnic tables and most areas are wheelchair-accessible. So pack along a lunch to enjoy under the trees. You just can’t beat a Calaveras County wine tasting picnic.
