Introduction / Description

Greenleaf State Park is located near Braggs, Oklahoma, and is situated around the 930-acre Greenleaf Lake. Greenleaf Lake was built in 1939. There is an 18-mile hiking trail that begins inside the park and makes its way around Greenleaf lake and into the adjacent government land of Camp Gruber.

Tucked away in the hills of eastern Oklahoma, Greenleaf State Park offers spectacular scenery and is a family-friendly state park. The park includes Greenleaf Lake as well as cabins, campgrounds, family recreation facilities and nature hiking trails. The lake cabins and other facilities at Greenleaf State Park were built in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The original buildings, constructed of native stone, remain a lasting and beautiful tribute to those who built them.

The park has 16 rustic, WPA-built cabins equipped with bathrooms, kitchens with full-size appliances, heat and air. Linens and towels are also provided. There are fireplaces in 10 of the cabins. Up to two supervised pets are welcome, with deposit, per cabin, but must be leashed when outside. The park also has the "Cabin on the Lake," designed to meet the challenges of the physically disabled. Pets are allowed in all cabins for a small nightly fee. Firewood and ice are available for purchase at the Greenleaf Marina, please keep in mind the marina is closed on Tuesday. A total of 14 cabins will sleep up to four guests, one cabin will sleep two guests and one cabin will sleep up to eight guests between two bedrooms.

In addition, the park features RV campsites, some with 50 amp electric and full hookups, as well as tent campsites. All RV and tent campsites must be reserved online. Additional amenities include a community building, pavilion, enclosed shelter, outdoor shelter, seasonal marina with grill and heated fishing dock. Be sure to visit the office and purchase a wrist band for the splash pad and 18-hole miniature golf course before enjoying the swim area, amphitheater, discovery center, playgrounds, hiking trails, volleyball courts and basketball courts.

Motorized personal watercraft is not allowed on Greenleaf Lake. The kids' pond allows children 16 and under to fish at no charge with no permit required.

Accessible Rooms & Bathrooms / Accessibility

The modern Cabin on the Lake offers a high degree of privacy, as it’s located at the end of a secluded road, well away from the other cabins. There is a paved parking area in front of the cabin, with ramped access to the screened-in porch that overlooks the lake.

The layout is spacious, with barrier-free access to the open great room, the adjacent kitchen and an oversized bedroom furnished with a queen-sized bed and a twin hospital bed. The bathroom is equipped with a roll-in shower with grab bars, a hand-held showerhead and a fold-down shower seat. Other access features include toilet grabs and a roll-under sink.

As an added bonus, the cabin comes stocked with a wide variety of adaptive equipment, including a commode chair, a trapeze, a ceiling track lift in the bedroom and bathroom, and a manual wheelchair. Best of all, there is level access down to a private dock, where you can fish, enjoy the lake view or even tie up your own boat.

Public Areas / Dining

If you’d like to explore the park on foot, then make plans to hike along the 1.5-mile Family Fun Trail. Although this paved trail technically begins near the park office, there are several other access points throughout the park. Wheelchair access is excellent along this wide level trail, which winds past the campgrounds and through a wooded area. Interpretive signs are located along the trail, and it’s a great option for wheelers and slow walkers. The trail also passes by the kid’s fishing pond, where children under 16 and disabled visitors can catch their limit for free.

If you’d prefer to fish on Greenleaf Lake, then head on down to the marina, where you’ll find an accessible floating dock, which was built with a generous donation from the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Greenleaf Lake is known for its great fishing, with lots of largemouth bass, crappie and catfish to be had. And since the accessible fishing dock is partially covered, it also offers some much-needed protection from the elements.

Best of all, there’s no admission charge to Greenleaf State Park, and the Cabin on the Lake is quite affordable; so not only is a visit to this Oklahoma gem very accessible, but it’s also easy on the old wallet.
