Interactive exhibits tell the story of Potter's writing and her importance to Lakeland conservation.
The Attraction is the brainchild of husband and wife team, theatre set designer Roger Glossop and theatre producer Charlotte Scott, who over the last 30 years have lovingly grown and expanded the Attraction to include the Old Laundry Theatre, a Gift Shop, Nursery Shop, the Laundrama Studio, (used for theatre bistro, films, comedy, and peter Rabbit tea parties), the New Laundry Cafe and e-commerce unit. The now-famous Chelsea Flower Show gold medal-winning Peter Rabbit Garden also adds to the mix, growing unusual and traditional heritage vegetables, flowers and fruits from Beatrix Potter’s era – with many sourced by simply looking at the illustrations in her little books. All parts of the business complement the Attraction, staying true to the genius that is Beatrix Potter.
The World of Beatrix Potter™ Attraction is situated on Crag Brow in the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere, LA23 3BX and shares a building with the Old Laundry Theatre. The Attraction is signposted with brown tourist information signs to follow. Parking is available in the nearby Rayrigg Road pay & display car park.
Disabled Access
The Attraction
The Attraction is situated in the centre of the hilly town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Working within the confines of our converted Old Laundry building we have made our facilities as accessible as possible.
The building has two entrances:
Families with wheelchairs or pushchairs coming from Rayrigg Road car park can avoid the steps by taking the second entrance to the building – a passageway to the left straight after the steps up to the Attraction. Please note this route is steep. Once inside the Attraction, all areas of the building (aside from a small section of the garden) are fully accessible for visitors. A lift gives access to the toilets and the Café.
Parking
We currently have no Disabled Parking on our site. The nearest parking for Blue Badge holders is Rayrigg Road Car Park where charges apply.
Touch tour of the Attraction
The Attraction’s displays are three-dimensional recreations of all 23 of Beatrix Potter’s Tales with different aromas and sounds to make the experience as evocative as possible. If booked in advance (with at least 2 weeks notice) and subject to availability, a member of staff can offer a touch tour , making the Attraction a tactile experience for our blind and partially sighted visitors.
