Bempton Cliffs is a nature reserve, run by the RSPB, at Bempton in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is best known for its breeding seabirds, including northern gannet, Atlantic puffin, razorbill, common guillemot, black-legged kittiwake and fulmar. There is a visitor centre.

The Bempton Cliffs reserve, on the spectacular Yorkshire coast, is home to one of the UK's top wildlife spectacles. Around half a million seabirds gather here between March and October to raise a family on towering chalk cliffs which overlook the North Sea.

Opening times

The reserve is open at all times.

The Seabird Centre (including toilets) is open from 9.30am - 5pm in summer, and 9.30am - 4pm in winter.

Blue Badge spaces can be found immediately outside the Seabird Centre.

Viewing points

  • Three viewpoints nearest the Seabird Centre are fully wheelchair accessible and have bays to give improved viewing to wheelchair users.
  • Most viewpoints have benches nearby.
  • Webcam footage is available to view inside the Seabird Centre.

Café

  • A self-service food cabinet holds a selection of food and drink and can be accessed from a seated position.
  • Limited indoor seating and tables available.
  • Staff and volunteers are available to assist.

Picnic area

All picnic tables have spaces for wheelchairs.

Dogs

  • Assistance dogs are welcome.
  • Dogs are welcome on the reserve, however they must be kept on leads at all times. This is to ensure that ground nesting birds are not disturbed, and also to ensure the safety of dogs on the cliff top.

Additional accessibility information

  • The Seabird Centre and shop are within the same level-access and pen-plan building. Staff and volunteers are available to assist where needed. For further details please see full access statement.
  • The site has one Tramper mobility scooter and one standard mobility scooter for disabled visitors to use. Advance booking via Eventbrite is recommended. While there is no official charge for this, a donation towards the maintenance of the scooters would be very much appreciated.
  • There are also two push wheelchairs that can be used, should anyone prefer these to using a mobility scooter.
