The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a 15 in minimum gauge heritage railway in Cumbria, England. The 7 miles line runs from Ravenglass to Dalegarth Station near Boot in the valley of Eskdale, in the Lake District. At Ravenglass the line ends at Ravenglass railway station on the Cumbrian Coast Line.
Welcome to the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. Join us as we journey from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World Heritage site, Lake District National Park. Travel across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stops with a 1:40 gradient at times, en route to our final destination some seven miles up the line to Dalegarth for Boot Station.
Take a step back in time and get hands on in the Railway Museum. Owned by the Railway Musuem Trust, entry is free but donations help to preserve history.
There is plenty to do on your day out with us at the Railway. Take a look here to see the facilities we have as well as lots of things to do in the local area.
Accessibility
Take a journey on one of the oldest, longest, narrow gauge railways in the world. The railway provides the perfect opportunity to combine a steam journey with plenty of trails and walks to discover this part of the Lake District National Park. We offer excellent accessible facilities for all. Please note that the carer travels free with a fare paying disabled passenger upon production of a PIP or DLA certificate.
Both main stations at Ravenglass & Dalegarth have all the facilities but please note intermediate stations are very basic and have limited access. We would recommend that guests join and alight at each end of the line at our main stations. Our staff are helpful, friendly, welcoming and are pleased to assist with any enquiries.
