This imposing building is an elegant mansion in the Elizabethan-Jacobean revival style, with 35 bedrooms and incorporating a huge salon for musical recitals. It is attached to a previous abbey building which had been occupied by Franciscan friars until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1542.

The development of the centre included a £15m investement from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL), administered by Sport Northern Ireland. The centre includes Northern Ireland's first FINA standard  50 metre swimmming pool.

Bangor Aurora has been built to the latest specifications and include the following for disabled visitors:

• Two pool hoists
• Disabled changing rooms with electronic portable hoists (personal sling required)
• Disabled shower facilities with electronic portable hoists (personal sling required)
• Change benches
• Staff will also assist your visit if you phone ahead

Bangor Aurora also operates a buddy card system. This enables disabled visitors to bring a helping hand for free. The buddy can assist you during your visit. Please contact reception for any queries.
