Starbucks Coffee shops are popular destinations in most big cities.
Chicago is no exception, and neither is the area around Wrigley Field. There has been a Starbucks within a block or so of Wrigley for the better part of a decade. It used to be located directly across Addison Street from the south side of Wrigley until that block was torn down for a new project now under construction (the “Addison & Clark” project you can see in the photo at the top of this post).
After the demolition, that particular Starbucks moved about a block away. It’s now located half a block south of Addison on Sheffield, in a former bar. It’s one of the biggest Starbucks you’ll ever see, and it does tremendous business on game days.
That often includes orders from the teams visiting Wrigley, who have taken to sending a number of players (mostly rookies) over to the shop in full uniform to place orders for the team.
That was the case over the weekend when the Cincinnati Reds were visiting Chicago. BCB’s David Sameshima was able to photograph several Reds players crossing Addison and placing their orders inside the Starbucks. It’s a charming tradition that both fans and the owners of the Starbucks enjoy.
