The Grand Opera House is Northern Ireland's premier theatre, presenting an outstanding programme of drama, dance, opera, comedy, musicals and family shows.
The Grand Opera House is committed to ensuring that we are as fully accessible as possible given parts of our building are 120 years old and have listed status.
Parking
- There is a multi-storey car park 50m from entrance and some on-street parking in Glengall Street.
Entrance
- The main entrance is clearly defined with level access and semi automatic glass door.
Reception Area/Box Office
- Box office desk is low and visually prominent in the foyer.
Stairs
- Several staircases, situated in the original building and in the modern extension.
- Generally good visual contrasting nosings, handrails on both sides and easy grip
- The staircases within the original building has handrails on one side
- Access to the stage in the original building from the Green room is via a narrow circular staircase.
- Alternative access to stage is provided via lift from the extension.
Lift
- Two standard passenger lifts are positioned to provide access for patrons within the front of house area and for artists in the backstage area.
- The goods and passenger lift in back of house area also provides easy access to stage.
- The lifts provide access to all areas of the building.

Auditorium
Main Auditorium
- Has seats on four levels: the Stalls, The Circle, The upper Circle and the Gods.
- Wheelchair spaces are provided in the Stalls, Circle and Upper Circle.
- Two permanent wheelchair spaces in the Circle
- Access to Upper Circle wheelchair spaces is via a narrow corridor and doors.
- Aditional 14 wheelchair spaces can be made available by removing standard seating.
Baby Grand Studio
- The Baby Grand is a multipurpose space
- Tiered retractable seating that allows for different configuration of seating.
- Wheelchair spaces available.
Meeting Rooms
- Located on first floor
- Accessible via lift and stairs
- Loose seating.
Changing/Dressing Rooms
- There are two changing rooms with accessible shower facilities
- Showers have good provision.
Accessible Toilet
- There are several unisex accessible toilets positioned throughout the building.
- The unisex accessible toilets have good accessibility with a choice of left and right hand transfer available.
Cafe/Restaurant
- There are several refreshment areas throughout the building.
- ‘Luciano’s Café Bar, the Baby Grand Bar and The Circle Bar are open during performances.
- All café/bars/restaurants are located in the new extension and are accessible via stairs and lift.
- All have loose tables and chairs.
Assistance Dogs
- Assistance dogs welcome sign displayed on front doors.
Hearing Assistive Systems
- There are induction loop system fitted at box office, all café/bars Baby Grand and an infrared system in the main auditorium.
- No sigange to indicate location and availability of induction loop systems.
- A sign for the infrared system is installed in the front of house passenger lift.
- Captioned and signed perfromances are scheduled for specific shows.
