Access for all

If you have difficulty walking or have a hearing impairment, there's equipment on hand to help you enjoy the centre and grounds, during the opening times of the house.

  • Free use of electric wheelchairs for use in the gardens (although donations are welcome)
  • Free use of wheelchairs to use indoors
  • The 'Brockmobile' electric bus to transport people who have difficulties walking from the car park or jetty to the Visitor Centre. Please ask on arrival at the jetty kiosk if you would like to be collected.

Arrival and parking

We have a car park for disabled badge holders next to the Visitor Centre entrance. We can collect visitors from the car park or jetty and give them a lift into the grounds using our 'Brockmobile' electric buggy which seats seven people.

Facilities inside the Visitor Centre

We offer:

  • an accessible toilet on the ground floor
  • a baby change facility on the first floor
  • automatic entrances at the front and back of our shop and one at the front of the café
  • induction loops in the shop for hearing impaired visitors
  • lift access to first floor meeting rooms

Our staff in the Visitor Centre will be happy to help and answer any questions.

Grounds and gardens

The gardens were originally designed in Edwardian times for private use, so many of the paths and steps are steep. There is a path from the car park which takes you down to the lake and lower areas of the gardens. This is suitable for wheelchair users.

You are welcome to board the Brockmobile for a lift into the grounds. We also have two mobility scooters for you to borrow for a couple of hours to enjoy the gardens and grounds. Please ask at the information desk in the shop.

Adventure playground

We have a swing for children with disabilities and a wide slide.

Toilets

As well as toilets inside our Visitor Centre we have a unisex accessible toilet just off the main car park by the Treetop Trek Reception. It is open all year round.

A second toilet block in the grounds near the lake is open Easter to October. However it doesn't have a disabled toilet or baby change facilities.

Assistance Dogs

We welcome dogs but ask that owners keep them on a lead at all times.

Dogs on leads are allowed in:

  • the gardens and grounds
  • the shop and cafe
  • the exhibition area

Dogs are not allowed in:

  • the adventure playground
  • play and learn room

Assistance dogs are welcome in the café.
