Montrachet Restaurant, located on Given Terrace in Paddington, is a great ambassador of French cuisine in Brisbane, for lovers of French or for those interested in trying it. Montrachet's interior is reminiscent of a quaint and characteristic Parisian diner with traditional overtones and design.
The word Montrachet is a wine originating from the Burgundy region of France. Burgundy is famed for some of the best Chardonnay and white wines next to the Chateau d'yquem. Fittingly, the wine selection here is carefully chosen and each are representational of their regions in France. There is a great scope of wines to be sampled and enjoyed, the wine list having been comprised of approximately 500 drops, 90% of which are French. Simply ask for some assistance from the waitstaff to have the right one matched to your meal. There is a magnificent bar that encompasses one half of the restaurant – this feature complements the other design elements that lend an ambience born out of a passion for European food and wine.
Owner and chef Thierry goes out of his way to ensure only the best, fresh local produce is sourced so his meals do the classics justice. Many of the dishes require a lot of tedious preparation and care, and the same sort of care should be taken when perusing the menu – although it's hard to slip up. The eye fillet, cooked to your liking, is served abed green salad with home-made frites and accompanied with your choice of either green peppercorn or bearnaise sauce – the French-style chips are a hallmark side dish of Montrachet. Another item that will have the palate of any Queenslander watering is the bouillabaisse made with reef fish, scallops, fresh green prawns and Moreton Bay bugs, served in a rich seafood broth with aioli and garlic French toast. Montrachet is a fine restaurant well worth visiting. For those in groups or after something different, try the degustation menu.
