West Midland Safari Park West Midland Safari Park, Spring Grove, Bewdley DY12 1LF, UK

The West Midlands Safari Park is located at Bewdley near Kidderminster in Worcestershire and provides a whole days entertainment. There is an excellent four mile (one and a quarter hour) self drive safari experience with a wide variety of animals from different continents roaming free in the reserves. These include wolves, rhinoceros, wildebeest and of course the lions and tigers.

It is important to note this is a popular attraction and can be very busy at peak times and people with limited mobility might have a better visitor experience arriving early in the day or by avoiding school holidays so the site is less crowded.

As well as the Reserves there is the Lost City Plaza, the Discovery Trail (with exhibitions and animal encounters) and a selection of rides for a variety of ages.

There is a good access to the shops and reasonable access to the various refreshment bars.

Please note that there are a lot of slopes within the Discovery Trail area and there is ramped access to some of the exhibits such as the Sealion viewing area so some self propelling manual wheelchair users may require assistance. The open air reptile encounter has a central viewing space for wheelchair users.

Some of the rides have step free access (see photo) some have steps and wheelchair users will need to be able to transfer. Please state if you need a carer with you or have other special  needs when you purchase a wristband.

Also some of the smaller interactive elements have limited access for wheelchair users such as the water cannons which have a step and the remote controlled mini landrovers where the console impedes good visibility (see photo).

There are four designated toilets on site.

The first is situated in the car park up a slope  from the parking area and is located at the back of the toilet block. It has limited dimensions and minmum space for wheelchair turning and room for one carer, right hand lateral transfer (impeded by a large bin on our researchers visit), no horizontal transfer rail and also on our visit contained a large loose mat.

The second is located in on the discovery trail near the reptile encounter and down a steep slope. This also had right hand transfer, no wheelchair turning space, room for one carer and wheelchair users would need assistance with the spring loaded door.

The third toilet was located within the Explorers cafe, it has larger dimensions and better turning space and room for a carer. Left hand lateral transfer although the transfer rail was located out of reach.

The fourth toilet is located just beyond the wristband office near the rides, this had the best dimensions and right hand transfer (impeded by bins) and room for one carer.
