The Rose in Fitzroy is an iconic part of the inner Melbourne suburbs culinary and nightlife landscape. With walls that could tell many a tale, the atmosphere is welcoming and homely like a real traditional Aussie pub. Select from an array of classic pub favourites of juicy burgers, beer battered fish and chips, and the signature Rose mixed grill. There is a long list of local wines to choose from whilst the kegs are filled with a good mix of well-loved oldies and craft beers from local brewers.
With great excitement and responsibility, owners Tom Hogan and John Tennent, took over iconic Fitzroy pub, The Rose, in December 2015.
The boys’ vision was to refresh the aesthetic of the downstairs bar whilst recognising its roots as a traditional sport loving, beer drinking, parma and steak eating Australian pub. Put simply, they’ve given the pub a new look – and kept the country pub in the city ethos that defines The Rose.
These walls tell a story and the boys are keen to continue the tale as honestly as they can – no pretension, a sense of community, quality product, intelligent and caring staff, and fair and reasonable pricing are non-negotiables. The tap beer offering includes old favourites Carlton Draught and Coopers’ Pale Ale, alongside a wide-ranging selection of craft beer innovators. In all, there are 13 beers on tap in constant rotation. 25 packaged beers from our backyard and abroad round out the beer offering. The wine offering champions Aussies where possible and highlights our talented friends in the industry such as Brian Conway, Sam Connew and Pete Schell. Our head chef did not feel the need to reinvent the wheel in the creation of the menu; think traditional pub fare utilising quality produce and professional technique. The Rose Fitzroy is an extension of many people’s lounge room – the boys have simply given your lounge room some love.
