Moor’s Head Moor’s Head, 2/774 High St, Thornbury VIC 3071, Australia

Located in a former warehouse, The Moor's Head is Joseph Abboud's (former owner and chef at Rumi) latest venture. The relaxed menu is a twist of Middle Eastern cuisine and pizza. Opposite Thornbury theatre, the restaurant will seat up to 40 guests. Pizza with a Middle Eastern twist, served in a minimalist black-and-cream space with booth seats. The Moor’s Head is the colloquial name given to the top of the still used to make Arak – the aniseed drink native to Lebanon. Why did we name our restaurant this? Well we could tell you some fairytale of how we watched our grandfathers distil arak in the backyard when we were kids, but…in truth we just love drinking arak and think “The Moor’s Head” is a cool name. So pop in and see what happens when two Arabs who love pizza and Middle Eastern flavours decide to combine the two to create a new spin on one of Melbourne’s favourite foods. You might also get to love arak as much as we do.
