What was once a Brunswick East corner shop has been transformed into Rumi restaurant; a dining experience that offers a modern twist on traditional Middle Eastern cooking. Here, colours and flavours leap off the plate. Try the quail kebab or the barbecued lamb ribs prepared with garlic and za'atar. The dining room is welcoming but not fussy, as is the service. Guests sit at compressed concrete tables in wooden school chairs, a minimalist setup that takes you to Beirut and back.
Since opening in 2006, Rumi has grown from it's small beginnings to become one of Melbourne's favourite restaurants. Joseph and Natalie Abboud's homage to the flavours and generous hospitality of Persia, Turkey and Lebanon sits amongst Australia's best Middle Eastern restaurants.
Rumi has appeared on "Food Safari", Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" and is consistently rated by Melbourne chefs as one of their chosen places to eat.
