Our 4 self-catering cottages, here at Martin Lane Farm, are all converted from exisiting farm buildings on a non-working farm. The Stable has been specifically designed with disabled guests in mind.
Pre-Arrival
We have our own website with online booking facility. or bookings can be made directly by phoning 01704 893527.
We will contact you in advance with information on arrival arrangements.
If you require, we can arrange for shopping to be delivered and unpacked prior to your arrival.
All information is available in large print on request. Both Ormskirk and Southport have shop-mobility schemes.
Public Transport
The nearest bus stop is at Heatons Bridge, which is 1 mile from the farm. Buses run via Ormskirk bus station every hour. The nearest train station is New Lane on the Southport to Manchester line. This is approx 1 mile away but this is only a small country station and not all trains stop here. Burscough Bridge Station is only 1.5 miles away with a large, free car park. Merseyrail trains run from Ormskirk Station straight into Liverpool about every 20 minutes. Ormskirk also has a large, free car park. This is by far the best way to travel when visiting Liverpool.
Arrival and Car Parking Facilities.
The Stable
Our fully accessible cottage has its own private, tarmaced drive and cars can be parked immediately outside the front door. A paved, 1.2 metres wide path runs around the cottage and is level with the tarmaced drive. The front door to the cottage is 400mm wide and again, level with the outside path.
There is a security light over both front and back doors.
The Dairy, The Shippon and The Granary
all lie around an enclosed, cobbled courtyard. There is safe, off road parking in the courtyard and there are two allocated spaces for each cottage. The courtyard is cobbled and therefore is un-even but guests with mobility problems can be dropped off immediately outside the door, avoiding the need to walk across the cobbles. Parking is 5 metres from the cottage. The courtyard is well lit at night with security lighting.
Lounges
The Stable
has a large open plan, spacious lounge allowing ease of movement for wheelchairs. The entrance door and the door into the disabled bedroom are 850mm wide, the door to the second bedroom is 740mm wide.
The walls are light in colour with contrasting doors and frames. The flat screen tv and electric fire are wall mounted to reduce obstacles. The lounge area has fitted carpet and a comfortable lounge suite, a 'parker knoll' style arm chair and a small nest of tables. There is good overhead lighting together with standard lamp and table lamps. A tiled kitchen table and pine chairs complete the furniture in this room.
The Dairy, the Shippon and the Granary
are not suitable for guests in wheelchairs. The entrance door to each cottage is 800mm wide with a 100mm step.
The Dairy
is single storey. The entrance door leads straight into the lounge/kitchen and has fitted carpets throughout. The furniture consists of a drop leaf dining table, two folding dining chairs, a two-seater settee and low sideboard.
There is good overhead lighting plus standard lamp with reading light attached.
The Shippon
is a two-storey cottage and the entrance door leads from the couretyard into the tiled kitchen area. The ground floor is level and open plan and the lounge area has fitted carpet. Furniture consists of solid wooden pine table and chairs, 3 seater settee and 1 armchair plus pine welsh dresser. There is good overhead lighting plus standard lamp and table lamp
The Granary
is a two-storey cottage. The entrance door leads into a tiled hallway, 900mms wide at its narrowest point. The hallway leads to an open plan lounge/kitchen with a small platform (approx 190mm high) at the foot of the stairs, which divides the hallway and the lounge. The lounge is carpeted and the kitchen area is tiled. The lounge area is lit with spotlights plus a standard lamp, a reading lamp and a large table lamp.
Bathrooms
The Stable.
One of the bedrooms has en suite wet room. This is specifically designed for the disabled with low level wash basin, raised toilet, adjustable 'rainfall' shower with hot water limiter, shower chair and all the neccessary grab rails. The en suite door is 850mm wide and there is a panic alarm to alert family members and also the owners.
The door into family bathroom in the Stable is 750mm wide and has full sized bath with shower over, toilet and washbasin. Heated towel rails and shaver points are in both the wet room and the bathroom.
The Dairy
has an ensuite wet room; the floor is tiled with non-slip quarry tiles. The shower area has easy pull curtains around it and low shelf unit for toiletries. There is also a shelf next to the wc. All doors in the Dairy are 750mm wide.
The Shippon and the Granary
The bathrooms in both cottages are upstairs. They contains bath, separate shower unit, wc and washbasin. All doors are 750mm wide
All bathrooms are fitted with shaver points and have wall mounted heaters. Shower chair, toilet raiser and non-slip shower mat are all available on request.
Bedrooms
The Stable
has two ground floor double bedrooms. One bedroom is specifically designed for disabled guests. The doorways are 850mm wide and there is space around the bed for a wheelchair. The wardrobe has low level hanging space and there is a desk with a space under for wheelchair access. The beds are zip & link so can be presented as child width twin or king size at the guests request and we also have bed raisers if required. There is a panic alarm alongside the bed which alerts both family members and the owners. There is a talking alarm clock, hair dryer and wall mounted tv with DVD. This room has an en suite wet room as described in the 'bathroom' section above.
The second bedroom can also be arranged with super king or twin beds to suit the visitor, with access from both sides. It has a full sized wardrobe and chest of drawers, wall mounted tv with DVD and wall mounted hair dryer.
The Dairy
has a ground floor bedroom. The zip & link beds can be 2 single or 1 super king sized bed as preferred. There is room to negotiate around three sides of beds. French windows lead from the bedroom to a paved patio area in the garden.
The Shippon
has two bedrooms on the first floor. The double room contains zip and link beds to form 2 single or 1 super king-sized bed as required. There is access to three sides of the beds. The room also has bedside tables, double wardrobe and dressing table. There is also room for a childs cot if required. The second bedroom has twin beds with a narrow access between the two beds. There is a shared bedside table and double wardrobe.
The Granary
has one bedroom on the ground floor containing adult sized bunk beds, armchair and double wardrobe. On the first floor there is one double room with zip and link beds as above, a large curtained hanging space, bedside tables and dressing table. Access from both sides of bed. The third bedroom has twin beds each with access to one side, curtained hanging space and bedside tables.
Kitchens
The kitchen areas in all cottages are bright and well lit. All units are standard height and light coloured. Worktops have easy wipe surfaces and contrast with units. They are all fully equipped and we have specialised gadgets available on request. All appliances are electric and floors are non-slip ceramic tiles.
The Stable.
The kitchen is spacious with a tiled floor. There is a small cupboard under the sink which can be removed for wheelchair access, there is also a unit next to the cooker which can also be removed for wheelchair access to the cooker. All crockery & equipment can be stored in the low level units as required. There is washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer.
The Stable, The Shippon and The Granary
each have washing machine together with iron and ironing board, the Stable also has a dish washer. The Dairy has iron and ironing board and use of washing machine can be made available.
Outdoor facilities
There patio furniture outside each cottage. BBQ available on request. We have a large garden and play area for the children and good outdoor drying facilities.
